BuildCalc Guide is an independent calculator website. Our goal is to make material estimates transparent enough that a user can understand the inputs, formula, assumptions and limitations instead of receiving an unexplained number.

How calculator pages are created

Each calculator begins with the underlying geometry or material relationship. We then convert the result into the units people commonly purchase—such as cubic yards, bags, sheets, boards, roofing squares or gallons. Editable assumptions are used when product coverage or waste varies.

Source hierarchy

For technical context we prefer manufacturer installation documentation, industry associations, government or code resources, and direct product specifications. Sources are used to check context and assumptions; text is written for BuildCalc Guide rather than copied from those sources.

Review process

Check the formula independently.
Test common and edge-case inputs.
Verify unit conversions and rounding.
Compare practical assumptions with authoritative product or industry guidance where available.
Review the page when a formula, assumption, product convention or relevant guidance changes.

What we do not claim

These tools are planning estimates, not engineering designs, bids, code approvals or manufacturer instructions. We do not invent professional credentials or claim that a page was reviewed by an engineer unless that review actually occurred.

Corrections

If you find a calculation error or unclear assumption, send the page URL, the inputs you used and the result you expected through our contact page. Reproducible calculation errors are prioritized for correction.
