Lay out borders and curves before ordering, verify pieces per pallet or square-foot coverage, and use a larger allowance for diagonal or intricate patterns.
Turning the estimate into an order
Calculate the base requirement first, then convert it into whole pavers or full pallets according to supplier packaging. Before ordering, verify actual paver dimensions, joint width, pattern and edge cuts. Round only at the final purchasing step so intermediate rounding does not quietly inflate the estimate.
What changes the field quantity
Running bond, herringbone and curved borders create different cut waste. Manufacturers may also package mixed-size patterns by layer or pallet rather than by individual piece.
Handling a non-rectangular project
Divide patios and walks into simple areas, then identify curved edges and borders separately. For modular multi-size patterns, convert area using the manufacturer’s pallet coverage instead of an individual-paver count.

No. Base aggregate and bedding sand should be estimated separately.

Choose the laying pattern before finalizing quantity. Straight rectangular fields usually waste less than diagonal or curved work, and multi-size kits should be ordered by their published pattern coverage. Keep border units separate when they differ from field pavers.
Use the calculator result as a planning quantity, then compare it with the packaging, minimum order, delivery rules and technical data for the exact pavers you intend to use. Where drawings, codes or manufacturer instructions conflict with a general estimate, follow the project-specific requirement.
Before placing the order
- Recheck the final measured dimensions after the project scope is fixed.
- Confirm actual paver dimensions, joint width, pattern and edge cuts.
- Convert the calculated requirement into the supplier’s actual selling units and round up only where whole units are required.

240 ÷ 0.25 = 960 pavers before cut/breakage allowance. At 8% waste, plan for about 1,037, then round to packaging.

- Replace every default value with the specification, package coverage or local quote for the exact material you will use.
- Round to whole bags, boards, sheets, bundles or cartons only at the final purchasing step.
