Flooring Cost Comparison: Compare Installed Scope, Not Sticker Price

Material $/sq-ft is only one part of a flooring decision. Removal, subfloor work, underlayment, transitions and labor can change the installed total.

1. Measurements used in this example

Measure net floor area, then state waste and box coverage. Write measurements down before opening a calculator. The purpose of the example is to make every assumption visible so you can replace it with your own project numbers.

2. Work the quantity before the price

Calculate purchase quantity first. Multiply whole-box quantity by actual box price, then add installation-related line items separately.

These numbers are planning quantities, not a contractor quote or structural design. Site conditions, local code, product specifications and supplier policies can change the final purchase.

3. Turn the result into a purchase plan

Compare quotes using the same removal scope, subfloor allowance, underlayment, trim/transitions, stairs and furniture handling.
