Concrete Driveway Cost Breakdown: Quantity Before Price

Driveway estimates become more useful when quantity and price are separated. First calculate cubic yards; then apply a local delivered price and add project-specific work separately.

1. Measurements used in this example

Example: 20 ft × 30 ft driveway, 5 in slab. Write measurements down before opening a calculator. The purpose of the example is to make every assumption visible so you can replace it with your own project numbers.

2. Work the quantity before the price

Worked arithmetic

600 × (5/12) = 250 ft³ = 9.26 yd³. At 10% planning allowance: about 10.19 yd³. A local price per yd³ can then be multiplied by 10.19 without pretending labor is universal.

These numbers are planning quantities, not a contractor quote or structural design. Site conditions, local code, product specifications and supplier policies can change the final purchase.

3. Turn the result into a purchase plan

Ask quotes to separate concrete, delivery/short-load, base work, reinforcement, forms, pumping, demolition and finishing. This makes two bids comparable even when their totals differ.
