100-Ft Fence Budget: Posts, Panels and Gates
Fence length is only the starting measurement. Post spacing, corners, gates, terrain and material system determine the actual takeoff.
1. Measurements used in this example
Example run: 100 linear ft; choose post spacing based on the system. Write measurements down before opening a calculator. The purpose of the example is to make every assumption visible so you can replace it with your own project numbers.
2. Work the quantity before the price
A simple 8-ft planning spacing suggests about 12.5 spaces, but real layouts must be adjusted to whole bays, end/corner posts and gate locations. Do not use this as structural spacing guidance.
These numbers are planning quantities, not a contractor quote or structural design. Site conditions, local code, product specifications and supplier policies can change the final purchase.
3. Turn the result into a purchase plan
Sketch the run first and mark ends, corners and gates. Price posts, panels/rails/pickets, concrete, hardware, gates, disposal and labor separately.
